Liferay is an open source and free enterprise portal, which is mainly used to enable corporate extranet and intranet. It is also described as a web application framework or content management framework. It has all the features that a website can offer its users. It is made of many functional units, which are known as portlels. Written in Java, Liferay offers extensive support for extensions and plug-ins for many programming languages. It runs on any Java Runtime Environment powered computer system and should be coupled with an application server. Liferay is a programming interface for Java programmers, but the administrator can install the website without having sound technical knowledge. This is the primary feature of Liferay.
